LYRICS ANALYSIS

BY JOSH SCOTT

In a few weeks I will get time
To realise it's right before my eyes
And I can take it if it's what I want to do

I am leaving, this is starting to feel like
It's right before my eyes
And I can taste it, it's my sweet beginning

And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone

And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time,
Yeah, you've known it the whole time

Maybe next year I'll have no time
To think about the questions to address
Am I the one to try to stop the fire?

I wouldn't test you, I'm not the best you could have attained
Why try anything?
I will get there, just remember I know

And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone

And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time

And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone

And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time

And I can tell just what you want
You don't want to be alone
You don't want to be alone

And I can't say it's what you know
But you've known it the whole time
Yeah, you've known it the whole time

LYRICS

‘What You Know’ is a song about plucking up the courage to ask someone out and about knowing that they want someone but feeling scared about making the commitment.

“In a few weeks, I will get time”

-Putting off asking her out

-Nervous about it

“To realise it’s right before my eyes”

-It’s obvious and the opportunity is there for him

“And I can taste it, it’s my sweet beginning”

-She’s within his reach

-He knows it will go well if he does ask her

“Maybe next year, I’ll have no time”

-Again, he’s putting it off

-Maybe nervous about it

“To think about the question to address”

-Still mulling over asking her out

-He knows he still has to ask

“I’m not you best you could have attained, why try anything?”

-He doesn’t feel good enough for her so he’s not going to bother

-Doubting himself, lack of confindence

We've decided to have a connection to the lyrics in the video through narrative. We'll mkst likely have the stereotypical "boy meets girl" story in an indie rock setting.
