Magazine Analysis 2

Mojo is another magazine i have looked at to analyse.

Mojo's masthead takes up a good majority of the top of the page due to it being a short word it has been blown up to fill the space. The word has a three dimensional effect to it, this creates effect as it is unique to most other music magazines mastheads. It grabs readers eyes and attention as it is highlighted on the page. The white colour to the word Mojo helps this, as against the dark background the white is illuminated and bold. The font Mojo is written in is a bold sans-serif font.

The masthead has a strapline to, 'The Music Magazine', this is written across the masthead suggesting it is important and people need to read it, this is implied further as the use of the word 'The' implies it is the best magazine there is out there in the world. The strapline is written in a sans-serif font however, it is much more vintage and stylish compared to the masthead.

The main image is of Siouxsie Sioux, a post-punk musician. Her make up is heavily made up with dark harsh eyeliner painted all around her eyes and the emphasis on her eyebrows making them more defined and harsh to add to the gothic/punk look. Her lipstick is almost the same colour as her hair which contribute eachother well. She has clearly been edited due to how clear, defined and bright her face is.

Her serious gaze out gives a personal feel as if she is looking right at you willing to tell you anything.

The house style is red, white, black and blue matching the free CD cover given away. The colours of her make up and clothes match this house style. Her clothes are very tidy, neat and smart which contrasts with her neat slick make up.

She is positoned at a slight tilt as opposed to face on which is quite interesting and she is positioned so that no straplines cover her face besides the masthead which covers half of her forehead.

The cover lines compliment Siouxie Sioux well as they have a gothic style serif font. They promote interviews, much like most cover lines on magazines. The sticker graphic compliments this further as it boasts that the magazine contains '145 reviews'. Key words have been highlighted in colours such as 'AND' and 'THE BANSHEES'. 'THE BANSHEES' is written in a light green and the word 'AND' written in a dark red which against the black background are not as highlighted as the white 'SIOUXIE' making that your drawn attention. Other cover lines such as 'BLOODY VICTORY' and 'ICE QUEEN' are bold for emphasis.

.

Unlike KERRANG! magazine which has lots of other pictures on the front cover, Mojo only has one other photo on the front cover of which is of George Harrison.

It is a small close up photo of him. He is positioned in the header banner at the top of the page with a article advertisment inside.

The article advertisment says 'HIS STRANGE '70s' this suggests that something strange happened in his seventies and makes the reader wonder what and makes them want to read inside to find out. The size of his image is the same size as the offer for a free CD on the other side of the header.
